The USDA is taking comments on a HSUS Petition to prohibit the hand rearing of all primates, big cats and bears. Only with the written approval of a veterinarian, stating it was a medical necessity, could the offspring of these species be removed for hand rearing.

The HSUS Petition also asks USDA to prohibit all public contact with these species, no matter the age, size, or personality.

The HSUS Petition asks the USDA to make part time employees, volunteers, friends or visitors stand a minimum of 15 feet away from the young of these species, including an infant being bottle fed.

Comments from breeders, owners, exhibitors, and those experienced with hand rearing are necessary to refute the lies contained in this HSUS petition.
